HTF partnered with Potomac Edison and their Energy Save Maryland program for an environmentally responsible option for wrap lighting. The pilot program includes retrofitting HTF’s conventional warehouse lighting fixtures and bulbs with highly efficient LED fixtures from Eaton.
HTF took a significant step towards sustainability by upgrading their Maryland distribution center to energy-efficient LED lighting. The decision to retrofit conventional warehouse fixtures with highly efficient LED fixtures not only demonstrates HTF's independent dedication to reducing energy consumption, but our personal responsibility to the environment.
LED lights can use up to 80% less energy than traditional halogen lamps. This can lead to significant cost savings, which may even be enough to cover the cost of the replacement. They can also increase the amount of light output from a fixture while still reducing energy consumption. This will make our facility brighter while also lowering energy costs. Further lowering costs is the fact that LED lights can last for tens of thousands of hours, so they should require minimal maintenance over their lifespan.
The successful retrofitting project, completed in the summer of 2018, resulted in a remarkable reduction in power consumption, allowing HTF to operate with a fraction of the energy used by their previous lighting system; the effective equivalent lumen output resulted in using under a third of the power consumption of the conventional lighting fixtures that were replaced. We were also able to reduce electrical consumption by evaluating all aged and less efficient electrical devices within our facility.
This initiative benefits the environment and reflects HTF's proactive approach towards embracing innovative solutions for a greener future. The completion of this retrofitting project in 2018 marks a significant milestone in HTF's journey toward more sustainable and energy-efficient distribution centers, and we look forward to implementing further green solutions to our warehouse operations and configurations.
